Everneath

Amazon Summary
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.
As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.
Review
Wow. Well this book really was a surprise! First, I’d like to say that I loved it – the idea and the characters really worked for me. I love the attachment Cole had to his music and the plot overall was really intriguing. It was one of those books that yes you can put down, but when you are actually reading you are wholly into the story. And I like books like that.
My only problems with the story had to do with the way it seemed to cut suddenly from place to place, event to event – and that the past was way too involved. I really am not too bothered about what caused Nikki to choose to become a Forfeit; all I mind about is whether or not she is going to become an Everliving (immortal). Anyway, why did she do it? It felt a little like an extreme reaction to what happened (well the main reason did, I totally get the secondary one.)
The ending also felt rushed to me, the way the conclusion was so sudden and did not feel like what I was expecting at all. However, I did like the ending and felt that it was a totally different twist.
It left this book open for a sequel, and that did upset me  - I want to know what happens NOW!
I really liked this book, and will definitely be reading the next.
